So they really did go on strike. There's no subway. There are no buses. Only cars with more than 4 people in them are being allowed into the city. Sigh.
We met up with friends/co-workers who live in the same neighbourhood and got a car service together. The driver of the first car we got wanted to charge us $40 to take us to Union Square, which is about 40 blocks away from our office building. He wouldn't tell us why he couldn't take us to 50th st. And for $40? Gee, no thanks. We found a nice car service guy to take us to 2nd Ave and 57th St, which, in the circumstances, was close enough. It was actually quite fun - in the way impromptu adventures usually are - but I really don't want to do it for the rest of the week. Eugh. Fingers crossed for a resolution or for not having to go to work.

I saw footage of your mayor walking to work. He said everyone should walk to work.
That's nice for him. Call me a bad egg but I'm not taking a 2 hour walk in 0 degrees to answer the phone and sort the mail.
